Iconic Tolomeo, now Trademarked

Tolomeo

For the first time ever in Europe and in the international design world, a lamp becomes a "form trademark". It is the Tolomeo, the world-renowned made-in-Italy icon designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1986. The UAMI (the European Union's office in charge of trademark, design, and model registration for the 27 EU countries) recently accepted the application of Artemide for registration of Tolomeo, which means that the form of this lamp, now a global icon, is a registered trademark, and that such trademark can be enforced solely by Artemide.

The registration of Tolomeo is unprecedented for lighting equipment in the European Union.
